To start the new year, I visited the Woodford Festival and explored the whimsical, yet meaningful, Lettering House, where people write letters by hand or typewriter to be delivered to recipients at the festival.
What a lovely little article! You've reminded me that we bought a cute red typewriter for my partner and mine's 42nd birthday party - theme, "Life, the Universe, and Everything" (of course). We had a beast on a spit, and petunias, and everyone was given a towel as they arrived, and the cake was in the shape of a whale with little cupcake mice surrounding it ... and we spent a whole day hunting down a working typewriter in order to set it up with paper to allow the monkeys to create Shakespeare :)
I have arthritis and typewriter keys are a bit painful. But maybe it would be good exercise to type the odd missive here and there ...
Oh that's wonderful Fiona! I love how typewriters and letters bring back such visceral memories!
